Location/s: GSK HQ, Stevenage

Education required: To apply for this placement, you must be:
Currently studying OR graduated within the last 12 months from a Bachelor's, Integrated Master's or Master's degree. Please check each role below for specific requirements.

Other requirements: You must have completed a minimum of two years of your Undergraduate degree.
You must be enrolled at a UK (United Kingdom) or ROI (Republic of Ireland) university for the duration of your placement.

Language requirement: Written and spoken fluency in English

The Roles
This advert contains multiple roles. Please read each description carefully before applying.

Role 1 - Cyber Risk and Assurance

Location: GSK HQ

Education requirement: currently studying, or graduated within the last 12 months from, a degree in Computer Science, Cyber Security, or a related field.

Role Description:

As an intern, you will work in a business focused team of Cyber Risk & Assurance professionals focused on delivering risk reduction strategies to protect GSK.

You will participate in data collection and analysis of cyber security threats, creating comprehensive cyber risk data reports and assisting in the creation of mitigation plans. Furthermore, you will assist in implementing projects to reduce GSK's cyber security risk exposure, engaging in cyber defence activities and employee security awareness training.

Finally, by collaborating with technical and business cross-functional teams, your work will ensure success and business user satisfaction, as well as contributing to the development of security solutions.

In order to succeed in this role, a solid grasp of fundamental concepts within Cyber Security is a must, alongside strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (particularly Excel) is desirable.


Role 2 - Data Science

Location: GSK HQ

Education requirement: currently studying, or graduated within the last 12 months from, a degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Data Science, Computer Science or a related Quantitative field.

Role Description:

During the internship, you will get the opportunity to gain experience in all aspects of data science during the STEM Internship Program, for example creating features, tables and relationships between data sources, training and testing a statistical or machine learning model, or even customising an existing model for a new use case.

You will contribute to analysis designs and plans and participating in brainstorming and design thinking sessions with the Data Science team, alongside summarizing the results of your exploratory data analysis and gaining experience in communicating the insights to stakeholders.

You will explore various types of data including structured commercial, behavioural, attitudinal, and synthetic data sources as well as unstructured text data, assisting the development team with integration of the solution you'll build and helping to ensure long-term maintainability. Finally, you will understand some of the business problems solved by data science in a commercial context

In order to apply for this role, a previous course in Statistics, Computer Science or Data Science is a must, and hands-on coding experience is desirable, particularly in Python, R or SQL.


Role 3 - Cyber Security

Location: GSK HQ

Education requirement: currently studying, or graduated within the last 12 months from, a degree in Computer Science, Cyber Security or related.

Role Description:

You'll support our Operational Technology (OT) Cyber Security team in combating cyber threats. The internship will give you the opportunity to grow your OT cyber security skills in project management, business analysis, and service management while you assist in enhancing GSK's cyber risk posture.

Within this role, you will manage and improve operational activities related to OT Cyber Security solutions deployment, overseeing OT Cyber Security project portfolios and reporting on OT Cyber Security risk reduction and benefits. You'll participate in OT Cyber Security risk assessments to identify vulnerabilities, threats, and overall risk status of systems, as well as track deployment progress with dashboard metrics.

This role will allow you to develop security solutions using secure design and architecture principles, assisting in cyber resilience activities to develop business continuity strategies. By the end of this role, you will understand and address differences between IT and OT cyber security.

In order to succeed in this role, a solid grasp of fundamental concepts within Cyber Security is a must, alongside strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (particularly Excel) is desirable.


Role 4 - Research and Development

Location: Stevenage

Education requirement: currently studying, or graduated within the last 12 months from, a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Science / Analytics, or a related engineering field.

Role Description:

The R&D Digital and Technology team's goal is to deliver business impact, including the accelerated delivery of late-stage pipeline medicines and vaccines to patients. The team specialise in tech and digital product development for Clinical Operations, Biostatistics, Clinical Sciences, Medical, Regulatory and Quality, supporting protocol development, cutting edge clinical trial design, data management, modern patient centric trial delivery (and much more!).

During the internship, you will have the opportunity to assist in the evaluation of the feasibility and potential benefits of new technologies. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify areas where technology can optimize and streamline internal processes driving process optimization and cost reduction. Furthermore, you will collect, analyse, and interpret data to generate actionable insights, creating comprehensive reports and presentations to communicate your findings and recommendations to senior leadership. You will use this data to define and monitor Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), measuring the success of new technology initiatives.

Finally, you will identify and deliver opportunities to maintain and evolve a positive organisational culture, focused on engagement, efficiency, and continuous improvement to empower DevCMO Tech to excel and make a meaningful impact.

To succeed in this role, a solid grasp of fundamental Pharmaceutical Research & Development (R&D) concepts is a must, as well as an eagerness to learn new technologies, tools, and methodologies. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, is desirable.
