QC Chemist required on a temporary contract to cover maternity leave, based in Greater Manchester. Requiring a degree in Chemistry or similar, coupled with hands-on laboratory experience of analytical techniques, including HPLC. Recent Chemistry graduates are encouraged to apply.

Salary: £25,000 - £30,000 (dependent on experience)

Term: Temporary (maternity cover)

SRG are working with an innovative, global company who specialise in the creation of speciality chemical intermediates for a range of markets. They are now looking for a QC Chemist to conduct analysis on the wide range of products that the company produce, on a temporary contract to cover maternity leave. The role would suit a recent Chemistry graduate with good analytical skills and ideally some hands-on experience with HPLC. Candidates with industrial experience who are maybe looking for their next contract are also encouraged to apply.

Role / Description

  • Conducting routine quality control analysis using chemical techniques such as HPLC , IR, titrations, Karl-Fischer analysis, melting point, UV-Vis and colorimetry on lab samples and bought-in materials
  • Supporting the organisation of analysis by third parties
  • Producing quality control evaluation reports and associated documentation, e.g. certificates of analysis.
  • Producing and updating SOP documents for processes around the laboratory.
  • Performing development work on existing and new analytical methods.
  • Maintaining technical databases of quality control results as well as those concerning sample receipt and despatch.
  • Making and testing product samples
  • Assisting with collection and sampling of materials from local warehouses and facilities
  • Assisting in general lab housekeeping, working in a clean and tidy manner, reporting and reordering shortages of chemicals or equipment, restocking chemicals and solvents, and helping dispose of laboratory waste in a timely and correct manner

Requirements

  • Minimum degree (or equivalent) in Chemistry or relevant scientific discipline
  • Proven laboratory experience and strong analytical skills
  • Recent, industrial experience of HPLC analysis would be considered advantageous
  • Strong work ethic, good multi-tasking skills and high attention to detail

This role would be an excellent opportunity for a recent Chemistry graduate, with or without industrial experience, to develop skills in a range of analytical techniques and quality control.
